Daniel with the 'IT TAKES COURAGE CREW'

Please Vote on 30th October

20 10 2008

If you’re a Christian who has given up on politics this year and decided not to vote on the 30th October, ECZ do that which is honourable. Go to Joppa and find a ship bound for Tarshish.  There is no reason for you to be a citizen of this country if you perform neither civic nor scared duties.

Jonah refused to go to Nineveh because he wanted the city to be destroyed.  Nineveh was a wicked city whose leaders and people hated and oppressed the Hebrews. There was no way Jonah, a Hebrew, would go to his enemies and preach repentance when he knew that if they repented God would show them His compassion and not destroy them.

A major reason Christians have decided not to vote is because of a lack of confidence and trust in the candidates. They see the candidates as selfish and greedy people who have no concern for the justice and well-being of the nation. Most Christians we have spoken to believe that the candidates underlying purposes are to improve their personal and extended family’s economic security. Africa’s political history supports this allegation. People often get into politics more because of what they can benefit rather than their love for serving people. Remember Mr. Munkombwe’s statement, “I am in politics because I want to benefit.”

But staying home because you don’t like the candidates is not an option. Voting is required of every Christian because God demands of Votingus to seek the peace and prosperity of our country as well as any other nation we may be living in at any particular time. If God told the Israelites who where in exile in Babylon, “To build houses …seek the peace and prosperity … Pray to the Lord for it”, what more should we do for the nation that God has given us?

As Christians we may not see a candidate who meets the highest standard of competence, integrity and justice that is revealed in the Bible. Yet even if that is the case, we must pray for wisdom from God to help us choose a candidate who meets the minimum requirement of Biblical leadership. We then must not stop at only casting our vote. Like the prophet Nathan we too must engage with our David’s and plead for justice for our Uriah’s – the poor, uneducated, physically handicapped, widows, and the street children.

If we are to enjoy the physical blessing of our nation, we must assume the obligations of citizenship by doing our civic duty gladly out of obedience to God and love of neighbour. Jonah’s example helps us to put the coming election into perspective. If we don’t vote and we don’t preach repentance to our politicians, we show that we don’t love our country or care for justice, peace and godly prosperity.

Corruption and Theft

16 09 2008

Mr. Frederick Chiluba, the former Republican President has been ordered by a British Judge to pay back US$35 million of the $41 million he allegedly defrauded Zambia while in power. Did you cry or get angry or ask difficult questions of how this could have happened or why this case took place in a London Court or just nodded your shoulders?

This case reviews to the nation that the conduct of many of our people in public offices is below reasonable expectations. Otherwise how do you explain the theft of such colossal amount of money without the auditors and other key leaders in the Ministry of Finance exposing the scum? This case clearly shows us that there is both gross indiscipline, corruption or incompetence and that the majority of our Zambian leaders have been more interested in pursuing their own narrow and selfish interests than in promoting the welfare of the generality of our people. In addition, the fact that this case took place in a London Court is an indicator that the consistent sabotage of the common good has led to the widespread distrust of donors in our local justice systems to investigate public theft and to bring about desired justice.

This case provides a forum for collective audit of the nation’s leadership and a platform for generating possible remedies. What is contained in the judgment is an eye opener to the nature of the leadership crisis we face in the nation. Therefore, we should be discussing how we should evaluate, recruit, reject, censure and replace leaders. For example when you consider all the people involved in this case, one feature that stands out is that the structure of power in Zambia, and recruitment into it, seem destined to produce the wrong leaders for the country, leaders who are neither dedicated nor free from tribalism, but ‘skillful’ in the pursuit of narrow and selfish interest.

This case also shows us that the Zambian Constitution confers upon the head of state an enormous amount of economic and social power; Mr. Chiluba used this power to build huge personal fortunes and to reward patronage. We need a new Constitution that subject the head of state to the same law as does to the humblest person of the country. Think of Israel, a king was assigned a far more restricted role. In Israel the idea king was an Israelite, did not acquire great number of horses for himself, he did not accumulate large amount of silver and gold or marry several wives. His power was also limited by covenantal law like any of his subjects (Deut. 17:14-20; 1 Sam.10-25).

This case calls the nation to prayer and practical action. In 2 Chron. 7:12-22, God gives a definite promise of the power of prayer to affect the state of the land. If people who are strongly identified with God in a praying house turn to Him in inward correctness and with a desire for Him personally in fervent national prayer, He promises that He will hear from heaven and heal the land. In practical action let our faith in God play a role in setting up a new constitution and in establishing what is fair and just for all.

A Journey of One Thousand Miles

9 01 2008

“Looking at the king’s mouth, an old man once said, one would think he never sucked at his mother’s breasts”. This is an African proverb which teaches us that when one has risen to a great fortune, many people would think that he has never been in poverty. Yesterday, we opened school at Vision School of Accountancy where I am pursuing Business Administration under Association for Business Executives (ABE).

Daniel performing dramaIt has been hard trying to secure for a school place since when I completed my high school in 2003. I thank god to every vision there is a provision, as the Lord has provided tuition fees through Pastor Lawrence Temfwe Jubilee Centre’s Executive Director and Father Miha Drevensek Mission Press Executive Director; because my parents can’t afford to pay as they are too old and don’t have a source of income.

Education is the leading of souls to what is best and making what is best out of them, is a profound quote. My soul is now at ease with this great privilege of hope that one day I will be called Mr. Educated. I thank you Gibson Kwale ‘the only wise man’, Chilila Kangaji ‘the only good accountant’, Matt and Polly ‘the only understanding couple’ and all the well wishers who earnestly contributed for me to be in school.

May the good Lord remember you and be smiling at you all the days of your life.

Time of Silence

4 01 2008

The end of 2007 has been my time of silence in publishing to my web log. It has been hard trying to secure for my school place so that I attain tertiary education so that I secure my future as soon as possible before I become the Minister or a presidential candidate in 2031.

Nepotism and corruption is all over the country demanding to devour the ambitions of innocent souls in poverty. It is a question of my above suspicion soul that will ghetto birds ever be dying before they even learn how to fly? Like it is common to every other man that those who wish to sing will find a song, God is great beyond imagination for he has been faithful to me; finally I have found a place to study Business Administration under Association for Business Executives (ABE).

2008 is the year of new beginnings and accomplishment. As we read in the bible the seventh year (2007) was a year of man; cancelling of debts, slaves were liberated to leave their masters if they wished so and the land was to remain uncultivated. Now that we are in 2008, it the year of new inauguration and new promises as the Lord will be faithful to us.

All those who have been at the bottom of my success and helped me reach this far, I say within your heart and your dwelling may the special things you do retain to you.

Happy New Year and God Bless!!! Daniel C. Daka
